Physics World launches digital channels

Physics World, the membership magazine of the Institute of Physics, has announced the launch of three digital content streams that will allow members access to the magazine in new ways.

The majority of members already receive a print edition of Physics World every month, and have previously been able to access a basic version online. The new online edition offers greatly improved functionality that for the first time gives readers a variety of viewing options, including the ability to flick through the magazine, download individual articles and search across all articles and images in any issue going back to January 2010.

In addition to this, from March 2011, readers will also be able to download an iPad and iPhone app, which has been developed to provide readers with anywhere, anytime access to current and back issues. An Android version is also in development for the near future.

The impetus for the change is the launch of IOPimember, the new digital membership grade that has been designed to open up membership beyond our traditional UK focus to a broader audience around the world.  "IOPimember is an important new initiative to bring Physics World and IOP to a wider community using exciting new digital platforms as well as improving services to all IOP members," says John Brindley (pictured), director of membership and business.

A sample issue of the digital edition is now available as a taster for non-members at http://mag.digitalpc.co.uk/fvx/iop/physworld/1011. Members can read the latest issue of Physics Worldon the new digital platform at myiop.org.
