PPA Scotland’s next Chair to be John Innes

Following his election by the PPA Scotland membership, John will take over from current Chair – DC Thomson’s Sally Hampton – at the beginning of 2021. He has now taken on the role of Vice Chair for 2020.

“I’m delighted to be following in the footsteps of Sally Hampton and so many great PPA Scotland Chairs,” said John.

“The publishing industry is an incredibly exciting place at the moment with so many different ways of engaging with our audiences across print and digital media. I’m looking forward to working with Sally and Laura to make sure that PPA Scotland continues to support and represent members across the country.”

Current PPA Scotland Chair, Sally Hampton said she was very pleased to see John elected.

“John Innes is a wise and dynamic colleague who has a detailed understanding of both the challenges and opportunities of the contemporary magazine industry,” she added.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with John as he takes up the reins as Vice Chair this year. And I’ll be delighted to hand over the Chair’s baton to such a capable leader for 2021.”

PPA Scotland’s Business Manager, Laura Dunlop said that she was very much looking forward to working with John: “With his enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the publishing industry, John has been a huge asset to the PPA Scotland Executive Committee since I started working here in 2017. I’m very excited to see how we can continue to build on the excellent work of previous PPA Scotland Chairs.”

John began his career publishing Sunday school magazines before working for a wide range of consumer magazines which have included Sight & Sound, Viz, Gardens Illustrated, Fortean Times, The Word and Wisden Cricket Monthly. He has worked in almost every discipline from production and web build to writing and publishing management. As Managing Director of Think’s Glasgow office, his team create digital content, print magazines and events for travel, health, savings, heritage, charity and financial brands.

The PPA Scotland Executive Committee helps steer PPA Scotland’s activities. The Chair is elected from within the Committee and takes a leading role in shaping priorities for supporting and representing PPA Scotland members.
