Private Eye appoints Redactive for ad sales

In a bumper year that sees Private Eye hit 50 years, the current affairs magazine has appointed advertising sales specialists Redactive Media Group to develop its commercial activities.

Advertising sales of the fortnightly satirical magazine, which is celebrating both its half century and editor Ian Hislop’s twenty five years at the helm, will move to Redactive with effect from issues cover dated October.

With an ABC consistently over 200,000 since 2002, the story of Private Eye continues unabated and the appointment of Redactive signals Pressdram’s desire to take the magazine to the widest possible audience of relevant advertisers and agencies.

Redactive director, Anne Sadler, who will assume responsibility for the sales operation, said: “Redactive is absolutely delighted to have won the contract to sell advertising in this iconic title. We relish the opportunity of taking Private Eye to the agency world – highlighting the strengths (and humour!) that will appeal to advertisers targeting the influential and affluent audience Private Eye provides. Being the 50th anniversary of Private Eye makes it an even more exciting time to be involved.”

Sheila Molnar MD of Private Eye: “Britain’s first, most successful and indeed only fortnightly satirical magazine continues to outsell its rivals; the recent Gotcha! issue sold more than 253,000 copies.  Private Eye has a strong and distinctive look that is trusted by its readers who are intelligent and well educated. We are really pleased to be working with Redactive in what should prove to be a very busy time for the magazine. With over 760,000 readers recent sales have been the highest for 25 years, and with increased media coverage across newspapers, radio and TV coinciding with our 50th anniversary, the next 12 months look like a very good time to be advertising in Private Eye!”

Private Eye is celebrating its 50th birthday with a number of events, including the release of Private Eye: The First 50 Years (by Adam Macqueen) which is out now, and a display at the V & A Museum between Tuesday 18th October 2011 and Sunday 8th January 2012.
