Diamond Publishing, the consumer division of Metropolis International Group, has appointed Paul Lester as editor of Record Collector.

Record Collector announces new editor

Paul takes over from Ian McCann who has stepped down after nearly seven years in the chair. Lester is an experienced music journalist having previously held the position of Features Editor at Melody Maker, and Deputy Editor of Uncut. As a freelancer he has written a regular music column for the Guardian and a number of books on artists such as Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Lady Gaga, Gang of Four and Pharrell Williams. More recently he has been the Head of Music Journalism at BIMM London.

Paul said: "I’m delighted to have been offered the job of editor of Record Collector, a magazine I have been reading, and writing for, for years. Britain’s first ever music monthly, it remains authoritative, and enthusiastic, about music old and new, with a blend of archival knowledge and fannish passion that appeals to music lovers of all ages.

“As the journal of record for the serious vinyl devotee it is well placed to capitalise on the resurgence of interest in that medium. I’m looking forward to continuing the fine work of my illustrious predecessors, and to working with the excellent RC team.”

Publishing Director David Harris added: “I am pleased to welcome Paul to Record Collector. He brings a wealth of experience and I look forward to working with him to deliver a great magazine for our readers.”
