Joining the Guardian's newsroom in September, Weale will be responsible for reporting on all education-related issues and developments, as well as breaking original agenda-setting stories.
Weale began working at the Guardian in 1993 and has worked in a variety of writing and editing roles, including women's editor and editor of the Guardian's Family section, which she co-founded in 2005.
Speaking about her new role, Weale said: "I'm really pleased to be taking on this new role. It's a fascinating time in the world of education and I'm looking forward to a new challenge."
Sally Weale has been the Guardian's Saturday features editor for the past four years. Before that she co-founded and edited the Guardian's Family section. She has also been the Guardian's women's editor and has held a variety of writing and editing roles.
Prior to joining the Guardian she was chief reporter at the Press Association.
