San Francisco to Host Annual World Newspaper Event

San Francisco has been chosen as the venue of the 12th International Readership Conference & Expo, which will present the latest newspaper strategies to satisfy loyal readers while attracting new audiences, in print, online and on mobile devices.

Speakers for the event, to be held on 16 and 17 November at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, include:

• David L. Hunke, the President and Publisher of USA Today, the nation's largest newspaper;

• Torry Pedersen, CEO of VG Multimedia, the Schibsted company in Norway that is pioneering successful print/web/mobile cooperation;

• Jennifer Carroll, Vice President/Senior Editor of ContentOne, a Gannett company-wide initiative designed to improve the quality and efficiency of content development and delivery. She will be talking about sophisticated market research;

• Anette Novak, Editor-in-Chief of Norran in Sweden, which is redefining what it means to be local in the digital age;

• Martin Jönsson, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Svenska Dagbladet in Sweden, where new content strategies are resulting in success in print;

• Doug Bennett, President of the Interactive Division of US-based Freedom Communications, which includes more than 100 publications, eight broadcast stations , all complemented with news, information and entertainment websites and mobile applications.

• Winners of the World Young Reader Prizes, who will share their print, web and mobile strategies for attracting younger readers: Waldemar Pas, Editor-in-chief of Metro in Poland; Jennifer Jhon, Editor of Teenlink, a Sun-Sentinel publication in the US; and Mathews Varghese, Associate Editor of the Malayala Manorama in India;

The conference, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), is being held in cooperation with the Newspaper Association of America and the WAN-IFRA Newsplex, the advanced training center for newsrooms of the future.

The event will also showcase exhibitors who provide solutions for reaching and increasing audiences across publishing platforms.
