Stylist celebrates 400th issue

Stylist magazine this week publishes its 400th issue, a special collectors’ edition entitled The Robot Takeover.

Stylist celebrates 400th issue

The issue marks a milestone for the magazine, as Stylist turns its eye to the future, with robots featuring in every aspect of the issue – from drones shooting the fashion pages to bots applying make-up for humans. Even the special guest font is created by a robot. This futuristic edition follows the magazine’s previous ‘Made by...’ anniversary initiatives, which saw politicians, celebrities and readers taking over the issue for one week only.

‘The Robot Takeover’ explores just how far technology has evolved over the past few decades. The editorial features showcase the astonishing functions robots are now able to perform and addresses the evolution of technology that can now enhance our lives like never before, say the publishers. The issue features creative editorial content exploring how technology can completely transform our day-to-day lives - including 3D printing meals, providing companionship, checking into a hotel or teaching morning yoga classes.

Gracing the cover is Sophia, the first AI robot to ever be granted citizenship of a country. The undisputed star of the issue tales centre stage in an eight-page spread and modelling this season’s show-stopping dresses. She also, continue the publishers, gives a frank interview about the meaning of life, offering her unique views on the most pressing philosophical problems of today.

Susan Riley, Editor of Stylist, says: “At a time where our reliance upon, and use of, technology is continuing to increase, this issue is an incredible step forward in showcasing the power of AI, with the entire edition taken over by robots. At Stylist, we’re continuingly innovating and looking at the issues that affect our readers’ day to day lives, and as we celebrate our 400th issue, it feels natural to look to the future as we continue to evolve.”
