The Tablet celebrates 175th anniversary

The special 175th anniversary edition of The Tablet goes on sale today, priced £3.

According to distributors COMAG Specialist: Founded in 1840 and published continually since, The Tablet is a weekly journal that covers a range of issues with a Roman Catholic emphasis, while remaining ecumenical.

Reporting on religion, current affairs, politics, social issues, literature and the arts, The Tablet has always attracted contributions from esteemed intellectuals, thinkers and writers including, Evelyn Waugh and Graham Green, as well as senior religious leaders and theologians such as Popes Benedict XVI and Paul VI.

Celebrating 175 years of uninterrupted publication, the 16 May 2015 issue of The Tablet will have some of the biggest features articles and stories from its archives, including reviews of some of the 12 conclaves and two papal visits to the UK since 1840.

As well as this, the anniversary edition of The Tablet will revisit some of the campaigns in its history, including the journal’s role in a Catholic priest’s resistance to the Nazis.

In addition, the 16 May issue of The Tablet will have the results of an exclusive survey of the most popular religious leaders and the top 100 most influential lay Catholics in Britain.

Also in this anniversary edition of The Tablet, the 16 May issue will have an in-depth examination of how migrants, recusants and converts have shaped the Catholic Church.

As part of its 175th anniversary celebrations, The Tablet has organised a full programme of seminars, lectures and cultural events for 2015, the details of which will be in this issue.
