Virtual Cloud Summit breaks new ground

Business technology web site V3 hosted a Virtual Cloud Summit on Tuesday 27 September, pioneering a new format for business events from Incisive Media.

According to Incisive Media: “The idea behind the Virtual Cloud Summit was to host a one-day conference aimed at offering our audience of IT professionals the latest advice on a major business technology topic – but making all this information available online, rather than as a traditional trade show.

The advantage of this format is that delegates only need a web browser to attend the event, and there is little cost to Incisive Media for hosting a virtual trade show. We also bypassed any of the resources required for setting up a face to face event, and were able to get high-level industry speakers as we could offer them flexible speaking slots as much of the content was pre-recorded.

"The key to the success of the show was the content programme", said V3 editor Madeline Bennett.

"We ran seven sessions on the day, covering topics such as security, mobile apps and 10 steps to the cloud. Each of the presentations was covered as a news article by the V3 team. The summit generated some excellent news exclusives for V3, for example a story about how the US Patriot Act is holding back cloud computing adoption in Europe".

Incisive Media’s first virtual trade show was a resounding success on all fronts. We had 850 pre-registrations, and 522 visitors on the day with a total of 1319 web seminar views. The average viewer spent over three hours at the event, taking the time to view a total of 1665 documents from the IT Hound resource library and sponsored booths.

Highlights from the day were the number of IT professionals who not only took the time to attend the 45-minute sessions, but then visited the networking lounge after each presentation to quiz the speakers on the points raised. The V3-branded headphones we sent out to delegates ahead of the show, to both remind them of the approaching event and ensure they were able to hear the sessions on the day, were also a fantastic way of promoting the show. And it was a real boost having cloud leaders such as Amazon, HP and Intel taking part in our inaugural event, both as guest speakers and sponsors.”
