Watch Anna present The Press Awards live

Sky News presenter Anna Botting has returned from presenting live coverage of the Japanese tsunami to present the Press Awards this evening.

Anna Botting will host The Press Awards tonight (Tuesday, 5th April) and the ceremony will be broadcast live over the internet and via Twitter.

The Press Awards that celebrate journalistic excellence in Britain’s national newspapers during 2010 will be handed out at a glittering awards ceremony and gala dinner at the beautifully restored Savoy in London.

The black tie gala dinner and awards ceremony are sold out but those without tickets will be able to watch The Press Awards live streamed over the internet and via Twitter.

Silverstream TV - who are specialists in video over the internet – will use the latest streaming technology to broadcast the event direct from the Savoy via awards website at www.pressawards.org.uk

Twitter users will also be able to follow the action. Silverstream TV will be tweeting the video clip of each award using their new 'Video at the Speed of Twitter' software.

"We've set ourselves a challenge," said Roger Wiltshire, technical director of Silverstream TV. "By the time an award winner gets back to their seat, we aim to have their video clip available to watch on their smartphone."

You can follow the Press Awards at: @pressawardsuk. You can join in the conversation about the awards using the hashtag #pressawards.

The Society of Editors has taken over the awards on behalf of the industry at the invitation of the Newspaper Publishers Association. Proceeds from the award will help to fund the society’s work on media freedom and also support the Journalists’ Charity.

Bob Satchwell, chairman of the judges and executive director of the Society of Editors said: “Reflecting the multi-platform nature of newspapers the Press Awards have been judged and managed online through a bespoke website developed by MagStar Ltd and it is fitting that the awards ceremony should also be shared with the widest audience using latest online technology.”
