WSJ launches ‘What’s News’ iPhone App

The Wall Street Journal yesterday launched What’s News, the Journal’s first mobile-only app for iPhone, inspired by the newspaper's storied front page “What’s News” digest.

Available exclusively for The Wall Street Journal subscribers, the iPhone app delivers the 10 most important business stories updated throughout the day by a dedicated team of journalists in Hong Kong, London and New York. What’s News is designed for mobile use with concise, expertly reported articles as well as real-time view of major market data.

“For more than eight decades, What's News has been an indispensable part of The Wall Street Journal's daily news offering,” said Gerard Baker, Editor-in-Chief of The Wall Street Journal. “The digest remains the most popular element of the newspaper. Today, we are proud to reinvent What's News for the most modern media platform - the smartphone. Subscribers can now stay abreast of all the most important business news throughout the day - in a matter of minutes."

Distinctive characteristics of What’s News include:

* An easy-to-scan homepage of the top 10 business and finance stories - right now.

* Live markets data from the world's biggest markets.

* Concise articles brought to life with graphs, charts and videos - designed for mobile.

* The facility to drill deeper into a story thanks to links to relevant stories from WSJ - with a simple back button to return to the app.

* Sharing is central to the app: press on a headline on the homepage or the share function on the article - and post to email or social media.

The What’s News app joins the Journal’s recently enhanced suite of digital products, including a fully responsive WSJ.com and new apps for both iOS and Android, as well as an Apple Watch app. These recent enhancements have ensured that WSJ is easily accessible to readers on all major mobile platforms - web and apps, say the publishers.

Full access to the What’s News app is available exclusively to The Journal subscribers as part of the suite of digital products. The What’s News App is available now from the App Store for iPhone.
