XPressMath available free for QuarkXPress 8 customers

Quark has announced the availability of XPressMath, free XTensions software for QuarkXPress 8, which enables users to create high quality mathematical equations within QuarkXPress projects.

Its simple menu, as well as its character and keyboarding sequences, efficiently combine text and mathematical equations to make it the ideal tool for publishers and typesetters, says Quark.

"Creating complex mathematical equations can be an arduous task but with XPressMath, it has never been easier," commented Tim Banister, General Manager of Desktop Products for Quark. "Many publishers, particularly book publishers, regularly work with mathematical equations, so having powerful XTensions software like this will be of tremendous value especially when combined with the enhanced features in QuarkXPress 8. XPressMath enables users to quickly and easily create case fractions, multi-level build-up fractions, and matrices, as well as a host of other functions."

XPressMath also claims to give customers the ability to:

* Associate characters with procedures (such as Sigma with summation)

* Typeset horizontal and vertical placement

* Insert fixed integrals, radicals, and summations

* Customise space around mathematical structures

* Import and export ASCII text for offline keyboarding

* Edit in WYSIWYG view to easily format previously created mathematic equations and structures

* Perform advanced formatting in the Equation Builder window

* Export an equation in JPEG format (replaces PICT [Mac] and BMP [Windows] export)

* Support Unicode

* Access four additional pi character levels

Existing QuarkXPress 8 users can download the XPressMath XTensions software free from the Quark Web site at http://www.quark.com/en/products/xpress/xtensions/xpressmath8.html. Please note that XPressMath for QuarkXPress 8 only includes an English user interface. It can still be used in non-English versions of QuarkXPress 8 but users should be aware that the XPressMath user interface will remain in English.
