YUDU Awards - winners announced

App developer YUDU Media have recently completed showcasing some of their most innovative clients with the inaugural YUDU Design & Technology Awards.

The YUDU Awards, launched this year, are intended to celebrate some of the most innovative examples of iOS and Android apps launched using YUDU’s technology.

Carolyn Morgan, judge of the awards states: “Digital magazines (in apps) are now diverging from print replicas, with extra video content, interactive graphics and innovative design and navigation, making them a much richer experience for readers.”

The awards were split across five categories, including apps for BYOD schemes and training, apps for education publishers, apps for associations and apps and apps for consumer and business magazines.

The nominations reflect this diverse range of categories, with corporate clients including The Financial Times’ Execsense App, for training executive directors, consumer magazines such as iGNITION, the official Williams F1 app and The Football Association’s The Future Game, built to help train England’s best footballing talent.

Nominees were judged according to rigorous guidelines evaluating how intuitive the app is, its use of rich-media content and how well it makes use of HTML5 interactive content, among other things, says YUDU.

Five leading media industry figures evaluated and judged the various candidates. They include Amy Baker, Editorial Director at The PIE, Carolyn Morgan, Media Consultant, Chris Rowe, Creative Director of Director Magazine, Juliette Denny, MD of Growth Engineering and Dan Collins, Head of International Circulation for Time Out.

The winners, announced yesterday, were:

BYOD/Training App of the Year: The Financial Times: Execsense.

Education App of the Year: Good Night Books.

Consumer Magazine App of the Year: iGNITION: Williams F1.

Business Magazine App of the Year: Greenfleet.

“It’s really wonderful to be acknowledged for all the hard work that has gone into this, so well done everyone.” says Fiona Gratzer, Managing Director of Unislim, Ireland’s most popular weight-loss association.
