Archant flies ahead to buy aviation title

Archant Specialist has announced the purchase of Today’s Pilot from Key Publishing Ltd, which it plans to combine with its general aviation magazine Pilot.

Pilot magazine claims to be the UK’s biggest-selling general aviation magazine, and the inclusion of Today’s Pilot will provide an unbeatable new combination for general aviation readers and businesses, according to Specialist MD, Miller Hogg.

“This powerful new union under the Pilot banner means that pilots, flying enthusiasts and advertisers will now enjoy even more comprehensive coverage of the flying world every month. What’s more, it brings together a whole new team of the best aviation writers and photographers between the covers of one magazine,” he said.

Pilot magazine has been the market-leading, most authoritative general aviation title for over 40 years, says Archant, covering everything from gliders, microlights and helicopters to private, business and commercial fixed-wing flying.

Today’s Pilot, meanwhile, has over the last ten years become a worthy, quality addition to the aviation magazine market, particularly among student pilots.

“Bringing them together in one magazine now offers readers, both old and new, unbeatable value,” said Miller, “while advertisers will benefit from extra commercial opportunities and an even broader reach among pilots and within the aviation market.”

Today’s Pilot Editor, Dave Unwin, will join the newly formed Pilot team, headed by Group Editor Nick Wall and Associate Editor Philip Whiteman. Dave will become Pilot’s Flight Test Editor and also work on the Today’s Pilot section within Pilot.

“This is a very exciting development in the flying world, producing a powerful new force in the general aviation market for both readers and businesses,” said Miller.

The first combined issue of Pilot incorporating Today’s Pilot will be the April issue, on sale March 2.
