Autocar becomes Egypt’s first international licensed title

Haymarket licensing partner OMedia has released the first international licensed magazine to be published in Egypt – the July issue of Autocar Egypt.

The English-language monthly will carry content from the UK edition and will also include Egyptian information, pricing and specifications, and will cover all major news in the country’s automotive market.

Omar Mansour, OMedia’s chief executive officer, said: “The launch of Autocar Egypt was prompted by market research that showed that Egypt lacked a trusted source for up-to-date information on the international car market.”

OMedia managing director Omar Khalifa added: “We are very excited about launching Autocar in the Egyptian market. During the past few months, international and local advertisers that are already very familiar with Autocar have been very impressed by the idea of having an international brand published for the local market in Egypt. Egyptians are real petrol heads and are always keen to know more about what is going on in the car world.”

Autocar Egypt also plans to begin local road tests when the Egyptian government bring in promised tax cuts on international car brands in 2010.

The first issue of the magazine will be distributed for free at prestigious locations such as the Four Seasons Hotel in Cairo and nationwide with a focus on the biggest cities such Cairo and Alexandria. From issue two the magazine will retail for 15 Egyptian lira.
