Autocar launches student award

Autocar will put a final-year university student on the path to a automotive career with a new prize, jointly set up with automotive HR consultancy firm Courland.

The Haymarket motoring title announced the Autocar-Courland Next Generation Award on its website, Autocar.co.uk, as follows:

“Every now and then a revolution takes place that changes the automotive landscape forever – an idea so innovative that it has a fundamental effect on the way cars are designed, built and used from that point on.

Autocar and Courland – the automotive people specialists – are setting out to uncover the next automotive revolution by creating the Autocar-Courland Next Generation Award.

Final-year university students are invited to put forward entries for the award, the winner of which will receive a cash prize of £6000 and four weeks’ work experience with each partner: Ford, Honda, Harley-Davidson, Honda and Marshall Motor Group.

It’s a unique chance to launch an automotive career.”

Entrants will be shortlisted on the basis of a 600-word answer to this question: “Where do you think the next automotive industry revolution will start and what will it deliver?”

The organisers suggest that entrants can focus on “any aspect of the automotive industry including technology, politics, production processes, financial incentives, a combination of these or something entirely different.”

Six shortlisted entrants will spend a day with senior decision makers from each of the brands involved, and will be filmed while presenting their ideas in a boardroom situation.

Three finalists will then be invited to attend the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ annual dinner, where the winner will be announced.
