BBC Magazines Bristol launches bookazines

BBC Magazines Bristol is extending two of its brands with the launch of three special edition bookazines.

Focus Magazine’s ‘Ultimate Gadget Guide 2011’ is a 116-page comprehensive guide to home technology. Priced £4.99, the bookazine is packed with buying guides as well as expert advice to help readers make the most of gadgets they already have. With content including a run-down of the 100 best phone apps; guides to internet TV, childproofing a computer and buying music online; and tips on how to avoid mobile phone roaming charges, the ‘Ultimate Gadget Guide 2011’ will appeal to both technophobes and the tech-savvy who are looking to gain more knowledge.

Also from the BBC’s award-winning science and technology magazine is ‘The Big Book of Answers’. Covering a multitude of subjects from the animal kingdom, mathematics and the environment to engineering, the human brain and the Universe, this 196-page guide features questions sent into Focus by readers and answered by a panel of the country’s leading scientific experts. Priced at £7.99 the glossy collectible also features over 20 photo-spreads showcasing the remarkable stories of the world around us.

The third bookazine, BBC Music Magazine’s ‘100 Jazz Legends’, is an essential guide to the biggest names in jazz. This 208-page title is priced at £7.99 and features introductions to leading artists across different genres including Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Billie Holiday, alongside guides to their best recordings and recommended discs. Following the success of his monthly ‘Jazz Starter’ column in BBC Music Magazine, ‘100 Jazz Legends’ is written by Radio 3’s Jazz Record Request presenter, Geoffrey Smith, and will be a must have for any jazz enthusiast or aspiring collector.

Andrew Davies, Publisher of Focus and BBC Music Magazine, commented: “These new special editions add to our portfolio of exciting brand extensions for Focus and BBC Music Magazine. Both titles are now truly multi-platform brands and I’m confident that these bookazines will be well received by existing fans of the magazines and new readers alike.”

All three titles are perfect bound with print runs of 30,000. The ‘Ultimate Gadget Guide 2011’ will be on sale at all good newsagents, while The ‘Big Book of Answers’ and ‘100 Jazz Legends’ will both be available exclusively at WH Smith and direct from the publisher.
