BBC Magazines to launch Something Special

BBC Magazines is to launch Something Special Magazine this spring, based on the popular award-winning CBeebies TV programme Something Special, starring Justin Fletcher MBE and his alter-ego, Mr Tumble.

The inclusive magazine is designed to help its readers and their families communicate with the aid of recognised Makaton signs and symbols and Something Special claims to be the only mainstream magazine created especially to be accessible to children with learning and communication difficulties.

The four-weekly title will launch in early April 2011. It will appeal to the many fans of the popular CBeebies' Something Special programme, and is the only magazine dedicated to Mr Tumble, the show's comic character.

The magazine closely reflects the content of the programme and the magazine team worked with families that are fans of Something Special to develop the editorial content. Readers can go ‘out and about’ with Justin by looking at photographs from the real world and the title also features fun, comic content with Mr Tumble and his friends. Every issue comes with a free gift and stickers and readers also have the chance to win exclusive signed products.

Editor Sara Oldham says: "We wanted to understand exactly what our readers need from their magazine. I'm happy to say that Something Special magazine has been shaped as much by its readers as by its expert editorial team."

Something Special Magazine will be priced at £2.99 and will be available at all major retailers and independents around the UK.
