Best magazine launches community awards

Best magazine has joined forces with Simplyhealth to launch the Best and Simplyhealth Community Awards - a nationwide search for the UK’s most deserving community initiatives.

Best and Simplyhealth Community Awards, launching in issue 21 of Best (on sale now), not only recognises a need to bring back community spirit but also honours those individuals and groups making a positive difference across the country, say publishers NatMag.

A six-month multi-platform campaign, the Best and Simplyhealth Community Awards encompasses editorial, promotions, activity on www.allaboutyou.com, as well as Twitter and Facebook engagement.

Anyone can nominate themselves or their community group by Best or visiting www.allaboutyou.com and explaining why their local hero or heroes deserve recognition.

The categories are:

• Best Young Community Volunteer / School

• Best Green Project

• Best Community Health Project

• Best Long Term Achievement Project

• Best Company Helping The Community

A panel of Best and Simplyhealth experts and celebrities will handpick the category winners, before selecting one winner to be awarded the Best and Simplyhealth Star Award at a prestigious London event in October.

Each category winner will receive £1,000 to help their project and the overall winner will be awarded an additional £5,000. A special ‘Gold Envelope’ prize, ranging from specialist advice to celebrity endorsement, will be given to the five finalists.

Best will also publish a four page special announcing the winners and showcasing their initiatives.

Best Editor Jackie Hatton says, “We are delighted to announce Simplyhealth as Best’s sponsor for its inaugural Community Awards. It’s the first competition of its kind for the magazine and with a dedicated support from a fully integrated online and social media programme we’re looking to make this a huge success.”

Clare Lee, spokesperson for Simplyhealth comments: “We are very pleased to work alongside Best to uncover some of the UKs unsung community heroes. As an organisation, we are committed to supporting our local communities and donate over £1 million a year to worthwhile causes across the UK. These community awards are a great way for us to reward individuals and groups for their hard work and to show that we can be bothered.”
