Castle Media – the publisher of Build It – has announced the purchase of SelfBuild & Design and from the February issue two of the UK’s leading self-build and renovation magazines will merge.

Peter Johns: “We began to realise that a merger of the two brands under the Build It identity would create an incredibly strong winning combination.”

From expert advice to real stories from people who have already created their dream home, these two magazines have shared the same purpose for the last 25 years, say the companies.

Calum Taylor MD of Castle Media said, “I am delighted to welcome not just SelfBuild & Design magazine to Castle Media but also their successful live events and PlotBrowser.com, the online plots listing designed to help self-builders find a building plot for their dream home. As the UK’s longest running and most focused self-build magazine, Build It is committed to providing its readers with essential expert guidance on everything from planning and design through to build systems and heating and everything that goes into the successful creation of that dream home. This editorial-led focus is also fundamental to the success of our highly respected website self-build.co.uk, Build It Live exhibitions and the Build It Awards.”

Peter Johns, MD of WW Magazines, the publishers of SelfBuild & Design since its launch in 1997 said, “Calum and I have worked successfully together on the Board of the National Custom & Self Build Association for a number of years, and in conversations we began to realise that a merger of the two brands under the Build It identity would create an incredibly strong winning combination with our complementary skills and assets serving the growing self and custom build market.”

Johns added, “I am very much looking forward to working with Castle Media on the development of Build It. This merger also allows us to invest further in our market leading inland waterways title Waterways World and, if the right opportunities arise, in some new market sectors”.
