Charles Reed takes over as PPA Chairman

Charles Reed, Group Managing Director of William Reed Business Media, has taken office as chairman of the PPA from Peter Phippen, Managing Director of BBC Magazines.

Charles Reed (pictured) said: “I am delighted and honoured to take over this prestigious position and I thank Peter for all his hard work in starting the revitalisation of the PPA – a mission that I intend to carry forward with vigour.”

Reed also welcomed new chief executive Barry McIlheney and announced the successful completion of a restructure which more closely aligns the organisation with the rapidly changing needs of its members.

“Business media and consumer publishing are entering a phase of growth and opportunity. However, the requirements of our members have changed due to the economic downturn and the continuing high pace of technological development. The new structure is designed to give Barry the best possible base from which to build,” said Reed.

The PPA has also announced that, as a result of a review by Eric Verdon-Roe, a number of roles have ceased to exist or have been restructured, and a new more accountable structure has been created which will “better serve the needs of the PPA membership and the market it serves”.

Within the new structure:

• Nicola Rowe (pictured) will now oversee membership services as Director of Circulation & Member Services

• John Schlaefli will head commercial operations as Commercial Director

• David Hyams will additionally look after shared services as Legal Director & Company Secretary

• Loraine Davies will continue to oversee the Periodicals Training Council and PPA training

• Andy Cook continues to head up communications and marketing as Director of Markets, Insight & Communications

• Jerry Gosney heads business-to-business activities as Executive Director of the Business Media Group
