Chris Llewellyn joins FIPP as new president and CEO

New FIPP president and CEO Chris Llewellyn joined the association yesterday from Bauer Media, the UK subsidiary of Europe’s largest privately owned publishing group, where he was international managing director.

Commenting on his new role, Llewellyn (pictured) said: “I believe that FIPP’s traditional role of bringing together the world’s magazine industry to share best practice, publicise innovation, and celebrate success, has never been more crucial than in these tough trading times. Together with the challenge that digital change is creating for magazine publishers, it’s a pivotal moment in which FIPP has a real opportunity to help shape the future of an industry. It’s a tremendous challenge to take on and one that I’ve been looking forward to ever since the announcement of my appointment as CEO of the organisation earlier this year.”

Llewellyn has been a member of the FIPP Management Board since 1999, and served as its chairman between 2005 and 2007. He succeeds Donald Kummerfeld, who retired from his position on 31 May.

Llewellyn was international managing director of Bauer Media (formerly Emap Consumer Media) since 1998. He joined Emap in 1980 as a brand manager. At various times in his 29 years with the company, he was marketing director of the consumer magazine division, group research director of Emap PLC, and between 1992 and 1998 he was based in Paris as directeur général of Emap France.

During his career he has also been appointed chairman of the Board of FAEP, the European Magazine Association, between 1996 and 1998.
