Classic Rock celebrates AOR with special issue

Future, the special-interest media group, is launching Classic Rock Presents: AOR later this month, a one-off special dedicated to the resurgent melodic rock genre, as it tests consumer appetite for a regular title.

Should Classic Rock Presents: AOR prove a success, it could join the Classic Rock stable full-time, alongside the regular monthly magazine and Classic Rock Presents: Prog – which also began life as a one-off dedicated to progressive rock, but is now published six times a year, costing £7.99 per issue. Future is also continuing its series of premium Classic Rock branded specials, including the recently announced Classic Rock Presents: Mötorhead – a 132-page magazine complete with the legendary band’s new studio album, The Wörld is Yours, a month before its regular CD release.

On sale Wednesday 17th November, Classic Rock Presents: AOR comes packaged in a distinctive cardboard wallet, featuring an all-new interpretation of Journey’s famed ‘Scarab’ symbol.  Inside, the magazine tells the story of the band’s classic 1981 Escape – the album that gave the world Don’t Stop Believin’ – the most downloaded song of-all-time on iTunes.  

Classic Rock Presents: AOR talks to Journey members past and present, including an exclusive reclusive former front man Steve Perry.  The magazine also reveals the Top 40 AOR vocalists of all-time, alongside features on Heart, Pat Benatar, Survivor, Reckless Love and Crashdiet, as well as the latest AOR news and reviews of albums, boxsets and live gigs.

The Classic Rock Presents: AOR package is completed with a 15-track CD, including classics from the likes of Journey, as well as Enuff Z’Nuff and Triumph, as well as new-wave melodic rockers such as Issa, W.E.T and White Widdow.

Chris Ingham, Group Publisher for Classic Rock and Metal Hammer, added: “We’re testing the water by putting out an AOR special – as we believe we’ve found a gap in the market and appetite from rock fans.  Classic Rock Presents: AOR could be a logical progression for our portfolio, if there’s a viable market to be found in this publishing gap.”
