Esquire appoints first ever Entertainment Director

Style magazine, Esquire, has appointed its first ever Entertainment Director – Tom Macklin.

Tom (pictured) joins Esquire from ELLE, where he worked as Executive Editor/Entertainment Director for the past three years. Prior to joining ELLE, Tom talent managed the ELLE Style Awards for seven years - a role he continued to maintain whilst working fulltime on the magazine.

Tom will work closely with Esquire Editor Alex Bilmes to secure celebrity content for the brand. He will be responsible for securing cover stars and exclusive celebrity stories for the magazine, as well as ensuring the world’s most famous and stylish attend Esquire events. High profile celebrities to have already graced the covers of the stylish, new-look Esquire include Daniel Craig, Robbie Williams, and Colin Farrell.

During his time at ELLE, Tom championed new talent by securing Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan and Emma Watson for their debut British magazine covers. He consistently delivered A-list exclusives with celebrities including Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston, Robert Pattinson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, Alexa Chung, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lily Allen, whose October 2009 cover helped the magazine go onto win the prestigious Yellow Pencil D&AD Design Award.

Before joining ELLE, Tom worked for a number of years in PR and events, managing fashion and lifestyle brands including Tiffany & Co, Dior, Zegna and Saab. In addition, he also talent managed high profile media events for clients including Entertainment Films, 20th Century Fox, Disney and the Royal Academy of Arts.

Tom is among a number of high profile journalists to recently join the ranks of Esquire. In May this year, Esquire re-launched complete with a ‘dream team’ of new writers including Giles Coren, AA Gill, Will Self and Tom Parker Bowles, as well as new sections, a bold new look and new size. More recently Alex appointed former Face editor and GQ contributing Editor Johnny Davis to work alongside him as Deputy Editor.

Since its re-launch, monthly copy sales of Esquire have risen by up to 75% year on year. Esquire also posted a year on year increase of 0.1% in the recent ABCs (July – December 2010).
