Esquire creates impact with special Mirri cover

Esquire, the men's magazine published by The National Magazine Company has created a special cover for its platinum anniversary issue.

The April cover has a number of features including a combination of silver Mirri, black and white foil and a die cut circular hole revealing a section of one of twenty exclusively designed inside covers.

The anniversary issue celebrates Esquire’s 20th birthday and features Esquire’s 20 greatest hits, with highlights from the last 20 years and also includes lessons in life interviews with Hollywood celebrities, such as Robert De Niro, Ted Danson, Chevy Chase, Danny Devito and Samuel L Jackson.

The metallic Mirri substrate was sourced from Mirri, a division of Celloglas. The decorative finishes including black and white foils and die cutting were produced by Celloglas at their Reading factory. The cover was printed by Colour Five in Wembley using a B1 UV Litho press, printed with UV inks and varnishes. The Mirri cover was printed 4 colour + white on the reverse and 2 colour on the front.

Neil Atkinson Managing Director of Colour Five commented: “The combination of black and white inks and foils really gives the cover the ‘How did they do that?’ factor and the contrast between metallic silver Mirri and black and white colours really creates an amazing contrasting effect.”

Steve Middleton Sales Director at Celloglas commented: “This is a fantastic example of Celloglas finishes and Mirri substrate being used together to create a exceptional result that’s perfect for a collectable platinum anniversary issue and the 20 limited edition inside covers encourage multiple purchases, which creates further interest and sales uplift.”
