FT appoints Jo Ellison

The Financial Times has appointed Jo Ellison as editor of luxury magazine, How To Spend It, from September.

FT appoints Jo Ellison
Jo Ellison: “Becoming editor of How To Spend It is a tremendous honour and a terrific opportunity.”

Ellison is currently the FT’s fashion editor, an associate editor, and coordinator of the publisher’s annual Business of Luxury conference. Before joining the FT in 2014, she spent seven years at British Vogue, where she was features director. She is a former features editor at the Independent and started her career at the Irish Examiner.

On her appointment, Ellison said: “Becoming editor of How To Spend It is a tremendous honour and a terrific opportunity. I am delighted to be taking the reins at one of the most esteemed and influential publications in the industry, and one of the few magazines with a truly global reach. I hope to draw on its incredible legacy and authority, and look forward to steering it into an exciting future.”

FT editor Lionel Barber said: “Jo Ellison is an outstanding writer and editor who has quickly made her mark at the FT. I am confident she will take How To Spend It to the next level, as a magazine, digital property and a world class luxury brand.”

An integral part of the FT’s publishing stable, How To Spend It has been named Supplement of the Year at the News awards 15 times, most recently in 2017. It is also the only colour supplement to have won all three major industry awards in a single year (The British Press Awards, the British Society of Magazine Editors and the News Awards). Though its origins stretch back 50 years, the magazine has existed in its large form glossy format since 1994 and is online at howtospendit.com, say the publishers.
