Packed with projects to inspire, including fast-to-finish projects that even beginners can tackle with very little experience, this is the essential guide to sewing.

The 132 page guide contains easy projects for beginners and some more challenging ones for intermediate stitchers, as well as news and reviews from the sewing world. With the current surge in interest in home crafts, and the increase in sales for sewing machines, there has never been a better time to start sewing, says the publisher.

Tesco recently reported that sales of sewing machines had reached two a minute, sales of sewing magazines are on the rise and programmes such as Twiggy's Frock Exchange on the BBC and Channel 4's Gok's Fashion Fix have all helped fuel this trend. Sewing is a valuable life skill which enables you to produce unique, cost-effective and beautiful items.

If you have ever wanted to learn to sew, this guide is for you! Technical guides focus on mastering the sewing basics, with everything from simple hems to buttons, and details on how to sew a mitred corner as well as embroidery stitches. There’s also a beginner’s guide to machine sewing, so all of the basics will be covered.

There are 54 projects to enjoy, including a quilted purse from Cath Kidston, as well as features and interviews from top designers such as Linda Barker and Amy Butler.

Debora Bradley, Editor of ‘The Essential Guide to Sewing’ said: “Sewing is a skill that can be picked up easily and quickly, and it gives great results in no time. The Essential Guide to Sewing will give beginners an easy way into the hobby, and start them off in style.”

Future publishes market-leading craft titles Simply Knitting, CrossStitcher, PaperCraft Inspirations and Scrapbook Inspirations. The Knitter, the newest craft magazine was launched in January 2009.
