Haymarket gets Gold for carbon reduction

Haymarket has been awarded a Gold Award for its commitment and ongoing action towards the reduction of carbon emissions at the first annual Green500 Awards.

In 2008, Haymarket became a member of the Green500, an organisation with the aim to engage 500 of London’s leading companies to take action on reducing their carbon footprints.

The Green500 team visited all of Haymarket’s London sites to get an understanding of its properties, gauge the level of management commitment and identify potential areas for further carbon reductions.

A carbon footprint and action plan was developed for Haymarket’s 174 Hammersmith Road building, as a benchmark for future performance. This building was selected because of its size and potential for carbon reductions.

The carbon footprint for the building was based on emissions arising from energy consumption, waste generation, water usage, business travel and materials transportation (such as couriers) during 2007.

Haymarket is working towards achieving a reduction of 204 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions arising from its office at 174 Hammersmith Road over the course of the Green500 programme. In 2008 the emissions level fell by 44 tonnes.

Haymarket says it will continue to work towards carbon reductions at all its buildings and will work closely with suppliers to reduce the emissions associated with the delivery of our products and services.
