IHT publishes year-end mag

The International Herald Tribune (IHT) has published The International Herald Tribune magazine, a year-end publication which presents a roster of illustrious contributors from a wide spectrum of disciplines and countries to contemplate the global agenda for 2010.

Evolutionary biologist Olivia Judson, author Paulo Coelho, historian Paul Kennedy, Twitter founder Evan Williams, journalist Timothy Garton Ash, blogger Arianna Huffington and the IHT’s ‘globalist’ columnist Roger Cohen cover themes comprising an overheating planet, a freezing economy and intractable wars.

Daniel Barenboim (conductor and pianist), Yulia Tymoshenko (prime minister of Ukraine) and Martti Ahtisaari (Nobel Peace laureate and former president of Finland) add to a wish list from eminent people from around the world on what they would like to see Barack Obama accomplish in the year ahead. Other features include a photo story charting the most memorable events of 2009.

Serge Schmemann, International Herald Tribune magazine editor in chief and editor of the IHT’s editorial page, said: “Our exciting magazine puts the world events that concern us most under the microscope.  It is filled with a wealth of ideas from a diverse range of contributors - many of them celebrated the world over - with their views on how the coming year will shape up. A new year is always a time for what Roger Cohen calls ‘the strange indomitability of hope,’ which is how we see the global agenda for 2010.”

Stephen Dunbar-Johnson (pictured), publisher of the IHT, said: “The International Herald Tribune magazine is another chance for us to showcase our high quality, international journalism. Addressing the most critical issues for today - and tomorrow - the magazine brings our readers richly thought provoking content, via the IHT’s uniquely global voice.”

The 50-page International Herald Tribune magazine is distributed inside subscription, newsstand, hotel and airline copies of the newspaper in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Extra copies will be disseminated at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen and at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2010.
