Inside Empire

As part of its 20th birthday celebrations, Bauer Media's Empire, the movie magazine, is publishing a one-off, special collectors’ issue covering two decades of the glamour, fun and plain insanity of working in the movie industry.

Inside Empire goes on sale 15 October with exclusive behind the scenes accounts from the key creatives in the magazine’s history, as well as all-new interviews and never-before-seen shoots with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. It will be a rare insight and a treasured edition for movie fans of all ages, says the publisher.

The features will include:

* A chapter by each of Empire’s eight editors,  with the stories of the successes, failures and scandals of their time in charge – full of gossipy, fun, insider info.

* Picture features of the best Empire photoshoots in its 20-year history, including never-before-seen shots from the iconic Birthday Issue (Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jack Nicholson  etc) and the magazine’s celebrations of The Lord Of The Rings and Indiana Jones.

* Columns from veteran Empire writers Angie Errigo, Kim Newman and Adam Smith, taking a sly look at how movies and magazines have changed in 20 years.

* Key Empire writers on the films that define the magazine.

* Interviews with the legendary directors the magazine has championed – everyone from Steven Spielberg to James Cameron.

Bauer Media’s Managing Director, Film & Music, Stuart Williams says: "This very special edition will allow our readers a peak into the weird and wonderful world of the movie world.  Tears, tantrums and triumphs are a daily occurrence - and that's just the staff. Inside Empire will be essential reading for anyone who's enjoyed a film at any point over the past two decades."

Earlier this year the Empire team, led by Editor Mark Dinning, relocated to LA to work with the world's most famous film director Steven Spielberg, who guest edited the birthday edition. The June issue included exclusive portraits and interviews from a veritable Hollywood Who's-Who: Jack Nicholson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson amongst them. The original prints were autographed and subsequently auctioned at Paramount, with almost 20k raised for Great Ormand Street Hospital.

Bauer says that Empire posted a sixth consecutive ABC circulation rise to 194,016, in the most recent latest JJ09ABC and delivered an extraordinary 31.4% (yoy) increase in readers to 870k in the last NRS. empireonline recorded over one million UUs in August 09 (Webtrends).
