Jamie Gavin appointed Acting Editor of FIPP

FIPP has announced that Jamie Gavin will take up the position of Acting Editor, starting this week.

Jamie Gavin appointed Acting Editor of FIPP
Jamie Gavin: “I’ve been involved with FIPP in some capacity or another pretty much my entire career.”

Covering for current Editor Sylkia Cartagena while she is on maternity leave, Jamie will act in both a writing and commissioning capacity, taking charge of overall strategic direction.

Jamie has been a part of the FIPP team for many years, acting variously as videographer, features writer, and events reporter. He currently produces the network’s weekly Global Media Tech Regulation Tracker and writes the Week Kick-off column, which is published every Monday morning.

In addition to his work with FIPP, Jamie is the founder and managing director of media company, inPress Online, and has also served for many years as a regular guest media commentator for the BBC, along with various other outlets.

Following Jamie’s appointment, Ashley Norris will also join Sadie Hale on the FIPP features writing team. Ashley has a deep knowledge of the media industry and has been the lead author on many FIPP reports including, most recently, The death of third-party cookies. He has also contributed to many FIPP events since 2015, and was instrumental in launching FIPP’s first podcast series last year.

James Hewes, President and CEO of FIPP, says: “It’s not often you have cause for a double celebration but this announcement definitely falls into that category. Everyone at FIPP is delighted for our good friend and valued colleague Sylkia as she temporarily departs on the new adventure that maternity leave brings. We’ll all be looking forward to welcoming her back in due course. And who better to replace her than our long-standing contributor and colleague Jamie Gavin, who already knows FIPP so well and has made excellent contributions to FIPP’s market-leading content. I’m looking forward to working with Jamie as we build on Sylkia’s fantastic new editorial strategy.”

Sylkia Cartagena says: “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jamie Gavin for many years and I’m delighted that he’s accepted to take over the editorial leadership of FIPP while I’m away on family duties. Jamie’s passion for all things media, innovation and technology make him an excellent fit to drive FIPP’s editorial journey to the next level.”

Jamie Gavin comments: “It’s obviously a huge honour to be named Acting Editor of FIPP, especially in terms of steering the ship for Sylkia, who has been so instrumental in advancing our content offering in recent years. I’ve been involved with FIPP in some capacity or another pretty much my entire career – it’s an organisation that I passionately believe in, along with the wider global industry it supports, and I looking forward to bringing even greater value to that industry from my end over the coming year.”
