Launch: Mixmag Japan

Mixmag launched its latest international title, Mixmag Japan, on 7th September 2017 at Sound Museum Vision, Tokyo.

Mixmag Japan is a free quarterly magazine available from bars, clubs and record shops around Japan. Mixmag Japan is also a website, social media, video and events company with its own Japanese app all ran from a Tokyo office. As with all international editions of Mixmag, say the publishers, the Japanese off-shoot will promote local and international DJs, nightlife, festivals and culture.

Entertainment law in Japan has been revised to help nightlife and dance culture. Tsukasa Akimoto, Vice Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, said: “Since the entertainment law has been revised, it's now legal to run the night time entertainment business so we can create opportunities for promoting dance culture and related artists to flourish and succeed. Government is now focusing on increasing numbers of inbound tourists and since their interest is shifting from shopping binge to experiences, refining night time entertainment will be the key for tourism. I hope Mixmag Japan would play a great role of dissemination of information, introducing great Japanese talent to the outside world."

Mixmag is owned by Wasted Talent which also acquired Kerrang! and The Face in 2017. Wasted Talent specialises in evolving UK magazine titles into digital global media brands, says the company.
