Mark Allen Group launches magazine and event

The Mark Allen Group extends its support for UK businesses on the path to net zero carbon in the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

Mark Allen Group launches magazine and event

In 2023, a new manufacturing leadership conference, ‘Engineering Zero’, and a net zero & energy management digital magazine (EMAG), join two other well-established energy management events, Energy2Waste and EMEX, the net zero & energy management exhibition, delivered by media and information company Mark Allen Group (MAG).

With these new projects, MAG now extends its support of UK businesses on the path to net zero carbon to not only in the built environment and waste management sector, but also manufacturing and engineering, says the publisher.

The climate emergency is profoundly affecting people around the world, added the publisher, and governments and businesses are scrambling to react. In 2019, the UK became the first major economy to pledge to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, a position it reinforced at the October 2021 COP26 talks in Glasgow. While the pledge is an important goal, it did not come supported by a fleshed-out plan of action. Filling in the detail of how to achieve it, within the current structure of environmental regulation, while maintaining most of our current lifestyle and economic activity, remains a huge challenge.

To help support organisations’ efforts to improve their environmental performance, all four initiatives – profiled by the publisher below – aim to provide expert commentary, best practice advice and networking among professionals and product and service suppliers. MAG’s says these new projects bring the benefits of these services to a wider range of people than before.

In March, the London-based Energy from Waste conference covers key themes including accelerating decarbonisation and the circular economy in the field of power generation (15-16 March). The two-day event, which connects the global waste to energy and waste to resources industries, explores polices, technologies and markets in the drive to carbon neutral. In addition to the main conference sessions, also included is a speed networking evening and site visit to the ABSL biomethane/hydrogen plant in Swindon on 14 March.

On 27 April, Engineering Zero: the Leadership Forum, also to be held in London, will present manufacturing leaders looking to start their net zero journey or improve their current strategies with expert advice and practical guidance. Speakers include:

  • Prof Paul Monks, chief scientific advisor, BEIS, on the government’s decarbonisation strategy for the UK
  • Oriol Margó, Kimberly-Clark sustainability transformation leader, on energy efficiency
  • Prof. Jeremy Watson CBE, professor of engineering systems at University College London, on net-zero success in manufacturing
  • Mercedes Maroto-Valer, director of UK Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre, on sustainable manufacturing leadership

The conference covers everything from digital technologies, operational efficiencies, workforce reskilling and supply chain innovations. Hear from those who have been there, done it, continue to do it, and are now reaping the rewards.

In May launches the first issue of EMAG, a digital magazine to support users of the UK built environment on the journey towards net zero. Whether it’s energy supply, sustainability and climate change, technology or training, EMAG can help. Topics in this launch issue include:

  • Linking executive pay to environmental performance
  • How to go about lifecycle analysis
  • Building energy standards-maker Kerry Rashford
  • High-efficiency motors for HVAC applications
  • Smart grid solutions for businesses with solar panels
  • Plus comment from opinion leaders, and news and regulation round-ups.

EMAG presents the ideas, the discourse and the diversity of the EMEX show, packaged into three editions per year. You can register for a free copy here.

Later in the year -- 22-23 November -- the energy management and net zero EMEX show returns to London’s ExCeL exhibition centre. EMEX is the largest community of energy, sustainability, facilities, operations and climate change professionals. Now under Mark Allen Group management for the first time, the event is going from strength to strength, as the 2022 event attracted 4,000 visitors with four show-floor theatres and more than 100 exhibitors – including Honeywell. Johnson Controls, ClearVUE, Vinci Facilities, PlanetMark and Clarke Energy.

As before, EMEX will provide practical knowledge, innovative solutions and latest learnings from successful implementations of energy-saving projects and net zero strategies. And through the continued support of patron and co-founder Lord Rupert Redesdale, visitors will have access to information at the highest levels of government. In addition to the diverse exhibition hall, EMEX will again offer a packed show-floor conference programme, with theatres covering energy management, sustainability & net zero, built environment & transport and energy future & flexible networks.

Whether they are completely new to sustainability and carbon reduction issues, or experienced practitioners, Mark Allen Group says professionals across UK industry working to improve organisations’ environmental performance and sustainability will benefit from these newly-expanded range of net zero and energy management projects. Not only do these projects connect interested professionals with subject-matter experts and the supply chain, they also provide expert advice, practical guidance and relevant information.
