Net-a-Porter.com appoints Beauty Director for Porter

Net-a-Porter.com has announced the appointment of high-profile international beauty expert, Newby Hands to the role of Beauty Director for its fashion magazine brands, Porter and The Edit.

An award-winning writer, editor and content director, Newby will be responsible for developing compelling, sophisticated and creative multi-platform beauty content for the global shoppable print fashion magazine, Porter and Net-a-Porter.com's weekly luxury digital magazine, The Edit. She will also work closely with Net-a-Porter Vice President of Beauty, David Olsen, to ensure Net-a-Porter remains the online go-to destination for beauty and will co-host international beauty events for the business in key markets globally, says Net-a-Porter.

Newby joins Net-a-Porter from online beauty retailer, Feelunique, where she held the position of Content Director since 2013 and from Harper’s Bazaar UK, where she was Beauty Director-at-Large.

During her tenure at Feelunique, Newby oversaw all beauty content for the business and was instrumental in setting up the London office at launch. She has been responsible for bringing in new brands to the business, brand collaborations and new launches. Prior to joining Feelunique, Newby was Beauty Director of Harper’s Bazaar UK where she produced award-winning health, beauty and fitness content for the magazine for 18 years. Her byline quickly became synonymous with world-class beauty, style and advice, says Net-a-Porter. Newby has also contributed to The Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times Style magazine, Daily Mail and Evening Standard.

Reporting into Lucy Yeomans, Editor-in-Chief of Porter magazine & Content Director of Net-a-Porter.com, Newby will oversee a team of beauty journalists to deliver global beauty initiatives including content creation, editorial projects and events for Porter and The Edit. She will also work closely with Net-a-Porter’s publishing, advertising and buying teams to help develop and enhance relationships with new and existing partners.

Beauty, alongside fashion, travel and lifestyle, is one of the key editorial pillars of Porter and The Edit.

Newby joins Net-a-Porter in mid-August and will replace Kathleen Baird-Murray, who is leaving the business having successfully established the Insider Beauty section for Porter and oversaw the growth of the beauty pages in The Edit.

Editor-in-Chief of Porter magazine & Content Director of Net-a-Porter.com, Lucy Yeomans says: “Having worked closely with Newby at Harper’s Bazaar for over 12 years before she took up her role at Feelunique, I am thrilled to be reunited with her as we continue to grow Porter and The Edit’s global beauty credentials. Newby’s skills and expertise are unrivalled – she is a world authority on beauty, has extensive and expert knowledge of the international beauty industry and possesses the rare skills needed to manage the complexities of both print and e-commerce. She will be integral in ensuring Porter and The Edit are the go-to brands for beauty and I am confident she will bring an exciting new perspective and authority to our business.”

Newby Hands says: "I am so excited to be joining Net-a-Porter, which has built an impressive and world-class global beauty business, and to be working with the inspirational Lucy Yeomans again. This role provides me with a wonderful opportunity to work across all aspects of beauty including content creation, editorial, events, commercial projects and e-commerce.”
