Oneshot: Queen Elizabeth II: The Longest Serving Monarch

Trinity Mirror is publishing a special oneshot, The Mirror Collection – Queen Elizabeth II: The Longest Serving Monarch, celebrating the Queen becoming the longest-reigning monarch. It goes on sale 20 August, priced £5.99.

According to distributors COMAG Specialist: Passing the record held by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II will become the longest-reigning British monarch on 9 September, ruling for 23,226 days.

Ascending to the throne on 6 February 1952 upon the death of her father, George VI, Princess Elizabeth (as she was then) would surely never have thought she would rule the country for longer than the woman whose reign now defines both an era and a people.

For more than six decades, spanning two centuries and surviving one world war, Queen Elizabeth’s reign has seen many changes and The Mirror Collection – Queen Elizabeth II: The Longest Serving Monarch will commemorate many of them.

From newly crowned 25-year-old to the relaxed matriarch of a modern royal family, from monarch to mother, ambassador to animal lover, this 84-page souvenir magazine will pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history.

The monarchy has adapted to a changing world and Elizabeth’s rule has weathered many storms, including her annus horribilus in 1992, but weather them she has and today is more popular around the world than ever, as the 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations proved.

Although many of Her Majesty’s official duties have been passed to the younger generation, she still has the love and respect of the people to whom she pledged her devotion so many years ago and approaching her 90th birthday, she remains a vital and reassuring presence.

With images from the Mirror archives, including many rare and previously unseen photos, The Mirror Collection – Queen Elizabeth II: The Longest Serving Monarch will illustrate a remarkable career of dedication to her people and country.
