Porter appoints US Fashion Director-At-Large

Porter Magazine has announced the appointment of renowned fashion stylist Alex White in the newly created role of US Fashion Director-At-Large.

In her new role at Porter, the British-born, New York-based editor will deliver world-class fashion shoots and stories from the US for the global, bi-monthly magazine, say the publishers.

One of the most respected and influential stylists in the industry, Alex has worked in fashion for more than three decades, styling shoots for some of the world’s leading fashion magazines with world-renowned photographers and designers. She started her career at UK Harpers & Queen Magazine, styling shoots with photographers Craig McDean, David Sims and Mario Sorrenti in the early 1990s, and went on to be Fashion Director at W Magazine for 10 of her 16 years there.

Approached by Dennis Freedman to join W Magazine, Alex made the move to New York in 1994. During her time at W, Alex produced memorable and award-winning fashion editorials with Mert & Marcus, Mario Testino, Bruce Weber, Steven Meisel, Paolo Roversi and Inez & Vinoodh. She has also consulted for luxury fashion and beauty brands such as Prada, Burberry, Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs, Chanel, David Yurman and Estée Lauder. More recently, Alex has been involved in the creative direction for advertising campaigns for Nina Ricci and Oscar de la Renta as well as styling their seasonal collections.

Renowned for her feminine, eclectic and super-sophisticated style, Alex’s most recent work for Porter can be seen in the Fall issue, on sale globally on July 31, in which she styled the Daria Werbowy main fashion portfolios, the double covers and the Fall Collections story, Lady in Waiting, working closely with acclaimed photographer Mikael Jansson on all three stories.

Porter’s Editor-in-Chief Lucy Yeomans says: “I have long been a huge admirer of Alex’s talent and vision and it is a privilege to be working with one of the world’s most renowned stylists. Alex both understands and embodies the Porter woman and will continue to elevate our fashion pages while staying true to our vision of what the Porter woman stands for, which includes style, confidence, strength, sensuality and charisma.”

Porter’s Fashion Director Gabriele Hackworthy says: “We are delighted to welcome Alex to Porter. She is extremely well-connected, has unrivaled style and brings a fresh new approach and feel to the fashion pages of the magazine.”

Alex White says: “I am so happy to accept the position of US Fashion Director-At-Large for Porter. Lucy and her team have built a global magazine that speaks to women around the world in an exciting and ground-breaking way. I look forward to bringing a unique fashion point of view to the Porter woman.”

Porter launched in February 2014. Alex White’s appointment brings the global fashion team at Porter to eight and includes Fashion Director Gabriele Hackworthy, Executive Fashion Editor Emily Zak, Fashion Editor Morgan Pilcher and Contributing Fashion Editor Cathy Kasterine.
