Readly launches enhanced mobile reading

Readly, the digital magazine newsstand, has just launched an enhanced mobile reading option for use on smaller screens.

This new feature enlarges the text size with all reading content in one column, making text-heavy articles a lot easier to view on small devices, says Readly. Enhanced mobile reading also allows users to customise the font type, font size, line spacing and background colour to fit their own personal reading preferences.

Users simply look for the round yellow icon in the magazine menu. This shows which titles are enabled with the enhanced reading function.

This major enhancement launches this week with a list of 200 English language titles. Over the coming months, Readly will roll the service out across all its territories.

Enhanced mobile reading has been developed in response to the growing usage of smaller screen devices among Readly subscribers. According to Readly, while many consumers use a smartphone as their prime way to access the digital magazine service, there are also many multi-device users (the Readly subscription allows up to five devices to be used on each account) who are using a different screen for different reading situations. With an average 22 minute “reading occasion”, subscribers are using the app to both “snack” in short bursts, often on the move and on a small screen, as well as for longer “me time” sessions, which become more of a tablet experience.

Ranj Begley, Readly UK’s Managing Director, said: “As the Readly service becomes more embedded in our subscribers’ lives - 40% of our subscribers use the app every day - they are increasingly wanting to read in shorter bursts and on smaller screens as well as in the more traditional magazine reading mode. So, we’re constantly adding new functionality to serve the emerging demands of the digital reader. This is just the latest in a flow of enhancements to make the Readly experience as easy, flexible and intuitive as possible.”
