Rhythm raises tempo with first bookazine

Future’s drumming magazine Rhythm kicks off a planned series of ambitious brand extensions in 2012 with the release of its first bookazine, Rhythm Presents: 100 Drum Heroes this August.

An essential read for fans of drumming and drummers across all genres of music, the 200 plus-page print and digital special will showcase the world’s greatest sticksmen, through exclusive interviews, profiles and photos drawn from Rhythm’s 27 years as the UK’s biggest and best-selling drum magazine, says Future.

Shining a light on the music, techniques, gear and career highlights of legendary players such as Keith Moon, John Bonham, Buddy Rich, Joey Jordison, Mitch Mitchell, Brann Dailor, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Stewart Copeland, Ringo Starr, Travis Barker and more, 100 Drum Heroes is a lavish read from a publication that goes from strength to strength.

Last year, according to Future, Rhythm underwent a re-design that solidified its position as the essential read for drummers and affirmed its status as market leader.

With buoyant print sales and early success as an iPad, PC and Android product sold through digital platforms Newsstand and Zinio, the brand is rising to the challenge of a wider, global audience.

This year will see further brand extensions and additional drum-related products, as well as ongoing investment in extra video content. In addition to its monthly cover-mounted CD, the Rhythm editorial team has produced more than 50 additional videos, which are available to view through its YouTube channel and on MusicRadar and have just passed the 400,000 views mark.

Chris Barnes, Rhythm editor, says: “Anyone who loves drumming, loves drummers and loves music will find a huge amount to absorb in 100 Drum Heroes. We are really excited to publish the first of our bookazines, and there will be plenty more great products to come from Rhythm in the future.”

Rob Last, Rhythm publisher, says: “This is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting year for Rhythm, driven by products like this and the massive new possibilities of digital. Our stock has never been so high and we have got a lot of exciting new projects in the pipeline.”
