Shop Save and Home Delivery promotion

Magazine and newspaper publishers have joined forces to promote Shop Save and Home News Delivery services to consumers.

PPA and NFRN Homelink this week sent a joint mailing to 5,000 independent newsagents containing window stickers and shelf talkers to alert consumers to the in-store availability of a Home News Delivery (HND) service for newspapers and magazines.

The mailing includes window stickers and shelf talkers promoting ‘Just Ask’, the magazine industry’s relaunched brand for Shop Save and HND of magazines. It also provided the platform to launch newly designed HND window stickers for NFRN’s Homelink initiative, which is backed by a range of national newspaper publishers.

The distinct point-of-sale (POS) material will immediately tell customers that HND or Shop Save is available from a specific store.

Kate McElroy (pictured), senior circulation & member services executive at the PPA, said: “For the first time newspaper and magazine publishers are working together to sell the concept of Shop Save and HND to consumers via independent newsagents. It is hoped that this joint message will make it clear to customers that they can have their favourite newspapers and magazines saved in-store or delivered to their homes.”

Katharine Challinor, News International’s Head of Retail Strategy, commented: “Offering a home delivery service, and operating a shop save scheme, are major selling points for the independent retailer and can add stability to a retailer’s business by virtually pre-selling newspapers and magazines as well as offering a vital local service.

“Clearly displaying the HND logo will help retailers to promote their service to customers. We were delighted to be involved in this initiative and look forward to it gaining momentum and the logo becoming nationally recognised.”

Just Ask POS is available to retailers and can be requested by calling Kate McElroy on 020 7400 7529 or at kate.mcelroy@ppa.co.uk.

The HND window stickers are available from the NFRN’s Helpline on 0845 601 5818.

Just Ask is designed to encourage customers to order magazines and newspapers to be Shop Saved or home delivered to drive sales. It is a recognised brand for promoting Shop Save and HND and highlights the breadth and depth of magazine titles available to customers, even if they can’t be displayed in-store. The PPA is urging its members to display the Just Ask logo and in-mag advert to promote the initiative to readers.
