Special John Lennon edition of Q

The November issue of Bauer Media’s music monthly Q marks what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday (b.9th October 1940).

The issue, on sale from Thursday 30 September, will come with a print run of four separate covers to collect – each one featuring a previously unpublished or rare photo of Lennon from a different era of his life.

The covers are as follows:

1. A shot of Lennon in Hamburg in 1960 by Astrid Kirchherr

2. A previously unpublished David Bailey shot of Lennon from 1965

3. A previously unpublished shot of John And Yoko by Iain Macmillan in 1969 taken exclusively from Yoko’s private archive.

4. A shot of Lennon in New York by Bob Gruen from 1973

Inside the magazine Yoko Ono has written a special letter welcoming readers to the issue and given a new interview with Q about her life with Lennon, which was conducted in the kitchen of the apartment in the Dakota Building she shared with him.

Also included in the 27-page special is a gallery of intimate and previously unseen Lennon shots from the ‘70s taken from Yoko’s archive. This issue also  features personalised testimonials to Lennon from Paul McCartney, Bono, Jay Z and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong; British DJ Andy Peebles’s story of doing the last interview of Lennon’s life; and Q’s guide to the best of Lennon’s solo work.

Paul Rees, Editor-in- Chief of Q, commented: “In order to properly celebrate arguably the single most influential musician in Q’s world, we have been collaborating exclusively for some time with Yoko Ono to deliver this genuine collector’s issue for Q readers and Lennon fans.”

Subscribers will get an exclusive version of the David Bailey shot as their cover. Q readers will also have an opportunity to pre-order a cover of their choice or the full set of 4 for £9.99 online from www.qthemusic.com from Monday, 27 September.
