Trevor Fenwick receives George Henderson Award

Trevor Fenwick, Managing Director of Euromonitor International, has been named as the 2011 recipient of the George Henderson Award, the most prestigious accolade in the UK data publishing sector.

The lifetime achievement award was presented by Barry McIlheney, CEO of the PPA, at a ceremony at Stationers’ Hall, the home of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, on January 25.

Fenwick (pictured) has been directly involved with representing the business information sector’s views on intellectual property and data protection to UK government and the European Commission since 1991. He is the former President of the European Association of Directory and Database Publishers, a member of the Publishers Content Forum, and a past member of both the Legal Deposit Advisory Panel and the Advisory Panel on Public Sector Information.

Fenwick was on the board of the Data Publishers Association (DPA) from 1991, serving three times as Chairman. He is now Chairman of the PPA’s newly formed Data Committee, which was created following the integration of the DPA and PPA in 2010.

Barry McIlheney said: “I’m pleased to be able to give this prestigious award to such a deserving recipient. In his roles at Euromonitor International and the Data Publishers Association, Trevor has worked hard to promote data publishers’ interests in areas such as copyright while championing new opportunities offered through digital channels.

“At a time when data publishers are playing an increasingly important role within the PPA, it is fitting to recognise his contribution and I look forward to working with Trevor on the key issues affecting the PPA’s business media members.”

Trevor Fenwick said: “In the 20 years I have been on the DPA Board, what was new and innovative has now become mainstream and the challenges faced by data publishers are now recognised by all publishers.

“Much work continues to be done in promoting and protecting our sector. To do that we need to encourage the involvement and engagement of companies like Euromonitor who can see the need for, and advantage of, PPA membership.”

About the George Henderson Award

The George Henderson Award was established in 2008 by the Data Publishers Association (DPA) to commemorate outstanding contribution to the UK directory and data publishing sector. It is named after the pioneering business librarian George Poland Henderson whose work at Guildhall Library laid the foundations for the City Business Library. Henderson was the founder of CBD Research Limited and was involved in setting up the European and the British Associations of Directory Publishers and served as chairman of both organisations.
