Stylist launches its first computer game

Stylist, a UK weekly magazine for young women, is marking the closing stages of the American presidential campaign with its first foray into the world of gaming.

Hillary’s Smash And Dash, a tribute to the 8-bit games of the Eighties is now available to play, on desktop and mobile devices, says the publisher.

Take the controls as Clinton on the campaign trail, progressing through the gardens of the White House and then finally to the Oval Office. You have to keep her ahead of the grabbing orange hands of Trump, smashing glass ceilings along the way. The more you smash, the quicker you dash and the sooner you’ll become America’s first female president.

Stylist’s move into gaming follows a resurgence in popularity of 8-bit games. Paul Smith has launched his dino-jumper mobile app, the Stranger Things 8-bit tribute has over half a million views on YouTube and Dara Ó Briain’s recent Go 8 Bit TV show was dedicated to celebrating retro gaming. Designer Anya Hindmarch even showcased a new range of accessories featuring the iconic chunky graphics of the format at London Fashion Week this September.

The brainchild of Stylist’s editor-in-chief Lisa Smosarski and photography and specials director Tom Gormer, the game has been designed by Cheryl Billingham, co-founder and creative director of Eight Arms creative agency. Smosarski says: “Like the rest of the world we have been following the American elections with a combination of fascination and horror. We wanted to mark the voting day next week in true Stylist fashion, this time with a unique and fun take on Hillary’s famous quote about trying to smash the ultimate glass ceiling – a subject very close to our hearts – as well as a cathartic way of releasing some of that pent up election frustration.”
