BikeRadar Live signs up CycleActive

Future – the special interest media group, has announced one of the first commercial partnerships for its forthcoming cycling festival, BikeRadar Live, with free cycle skills training from CycleActive.

BikeRadar Live is teaming up with a host of leading names for the UK’s biggest cycling festival, taking place on the weekend of 11-12 July 2010 at Brands Hatch in Kent. The first of these partnerships is with CycleActive, with the UK’s leading cycle instructors returning to the event to deliver their unique brand of skills training to experts, novices and kids.

CycleActive attended the inaugural BikeRadar Live show last year, and will be expanding on their offering for 2010 with a new ‘Pump and Jump’ area, as well as the successful junior skills area and skills clinic for mountain bikers.

The Pump and Jump free sessions will teach mountain bikers all about flying off lips, small jumps, kickers and tabletops. The hour-long sessions will take place on a custom built pump-n-jump coaching track, and are guaranteed to transform the skills of mountain bikers, enabling them to put them to the test at the rest of BikeRadar Live.

In the spirit of getting the whole family cycling, CycleActive will again be running the hugely successful junior skills sessions. The 20-minute sessions will cover all kinds of biking skills, with a motivated and relaxed style of coaching from the CycleActive experts that is ideal for building confidence in young cyclists.

Developing those skills further, CycleActive founder Chris Ford will also be running a one-to-one skills clinic, where he will help mountain bikers to identify any problems or issues that riders can’t get to grips with. The individual sessions will run throughout the weekend, and will be free of charge.

Chris Ford, Founder and instructor at CycleActive said: “With the right instruction it’s amazing what cyclists and mountain bikers of all ages can achieve, and in a relatively short time. Whether it’s getting kids off stabilizers or adults into the air for the first time, the CycleActive instructors have the skills and experience to make it happen with safety and style.”

Grant Norris, Event Manager for BikeRadar Live said: “We’re delighted that CycleActive are returning to BikeRadar Live again, the feedback that we got for the skills sessions last year from cyclists and families was great. Encouraging children to ride better, smoother, safer and with greater confidence is really key to BikeRadar Live, as we equip the cyclists of the future with the skills that they need.”

The Pump and Jump area should be really fantastic, mountain bikers are sure to pick up loads of exciting skills and tips and it’ll certainly be great to watch!”

The company was established in 1996 by Chris Ford, after training as a chartered accountant with Deloitte in London and then Leeds. Chris set out to establish a range of African tours and spent the first three years of his business life based in east Africa, exploring new routes for UK clients to experience. On his return to the UK Chris set out to professionalize the business, in keeping with his own professional business experiences. This meant training all guides through to the highest levels possible within cycle leadership and establishing a reputation for excellence both as leaders of holidays and instructors of mountain bike skills.

In the last ten years CycleActive has established itself as the UK’s leading provider of mountain bike skills training. Every instructor is highly qualified through the major governing bodies of cycle sport, and the company works closely with the official Mountain Bike Leader Award body to train future leaders across the UK. The client list includes major cycling organizations such as Sustrans, the CTC, British Cycling’s Olympic Talent Team, a range of outdoor centres, the armed forces and thousands of individual cyclists of all ages and abilities.

CycleActive and Future publishing have had a close working relationship since 2001 when the first major skills feature written by Chris Ford appeared in What Mountain Bike. Since then Chris has been a highly acclaimed feature writer for Future, both in print and online, and is currently writing answers for the bikeradar.com Q&A series.”
