The Financial Times has appointed Mel Unsworth as chief technology officer. She replaces Rebecca Salsbury, who joined the FT management board as chief product and technology officer in January.
Unsworth joins the FT from retailer END Clothing and brings more than 20 years’ experience in enterprise-wide technology leadership and transformation across retail, e-commerce, and media and entertainment. She has also held senior roles at Yoox Net-a-Porter, Merlin Entertainments and Warner Music, overseeing multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, security, infrastructure and delivery.
As CTO Unsworth will lead delivery of the FT Group's technology strategy, focusing on innovation and strengthening the platforms and capabilities that underpin the FT’s journalism, added the publisher.
Rebecca Salsbury said: “Mel brings extensive experience in technology strategy and execution, and a clear understanding of what drives success for organisations, teams and individuals. We are delighted to welcome her to the FT.”
Mel Unsworth said: “I’m thrilled to be taking on this role at the FT. I’ve long admired the trust it has built with its readers, and I’m looking forward to working with colleagues across the organisation to continue building on that success.”
