Bloomberg Names Stephen Colvin Head of Bloomberg Live

Bloomberg Media yesterday announced it has appointed Stephen Colvin as Head of Bloomberg Live, their global events division.

Colvin, who most recently served as CEO of Robb Report Media, will lead the global Bloomberg Live operation and be responsible for defining ground-breaking live event opportunities that break news, move markets and provide executive-level attendees with experiences that Bloomberg is uniquely positioned to create, says Bloomberg.

Colvin will also identify and expand new monetization strategies for Bloomberg Live as part of the organization’s continued investment in live events. He starts on January 3rd, 2017 and will be based in New York.

“I’ve known Stephen for a long time, having worked with him more than a decade ago at The Week. It was there that I realized the power of live events. Arguably one of the oldest forms of media, live events is one of the fastest-growing segments of the media industry and are critical to executing a successful, modern multi-platform media strategy,” said Bloomberg Media CEO Justin B. Smith. “Stephen has an impressive career leading publishing companies around the world and across different mediums, and landing a leader of his calibre to spearhead and transform our live events business provides us with an important market advantage. I couldn’t be more excited to work closely with him again; this time to make Bloomberg the preeminent destination for innovative global business events.”

“I am delighted to be joining the incredibly talented team at Bloomberg Media, one of the most respected companies in the worlds of business and finance. I look forward to working with Stacy Kennedy, Mark Miller and the rest of the events team to make Bloomberg Live the global leader in business and finance events,” said Colvin. “No matter where technology takes us there is always a need to convene thought leaders and decision makers to discuss the most important business topics of the day. Such events generate not only great insights and solutions, but also create opportunities for marketers to align their brands alongside meaningful conversations between global leaders, influencers and newsmakers, both at the event and on all the other Bloomberg media platforms.

Leveraging the company’s 2,400 journalists, news resources around the world, data and media platforms that span digital, TV, radio and print magazines, Bloomberg Live events are the centrepiece of Bloomberg’s media strategy. Its mission is to offer high-quality, newsmaking experiences for influential audiences, along with compelling opportunities for advertisers, says Bloomberg.

Colvin started his media career in London, which included 8 years at Dennis Publishing where, as Publishing Director, he launched several successful magazine and event businesses. He moved to New York in 1995 to create Dennis Publishing US and during the next 11 years he established a financially successful and trailblazing media company that encompassed magazines, digital media, events and TV. Colvin’s more recent experience includes President of then start-up The Daily Beast and then CEO of The Newsweek Daily Beast company, as well as EVP, CBS Interactive and Executive in Residence of the venture capital firm Lerer Hippeau Ventures.
