David Owen is new MD of Distripress

Distripress, the Association for the Promotion of the International Circulation of the Press, has announced the appointment of David Owen as new Managing Director.

The appointment will take effect from October 1st 2010. The current director Dr Peter Emöd informed the governing bodies of the association last October about his intention to step down after more than 9 years in this function in September 2010, after the 55th congress of Distripress in Hamburg.

David Owen (pictured) has nearly 30 years of experience in the press industry. He joined The Guardian in May 1982 rising to become Circulation Director with responsibility for both domestic UK and international distribution.

Since 2000 David has been heavily involved in developing new channels to market in both print and electronic distribution models. He has worked with Xerox, Atex and most recently NewspaperDirect as the Canadian technology company has become an established player on the international press distribution scene.

Throughout his career David has been a strong supporter of Distripress and he has served as a member of both the Board and Council as well as contributing regularly to the congress forums.

Commenting his appointment, David Owen said: “I am really delighted to be joining Distripress at this important time in the organisation’s history. The international distribution business is facing massive structural and technological challenges and Distripress can play a vital role in helping to manage them. At this time of huge uncertainty and change the need for an industry market place for the sharing of ideas and the spreading of best practices has never been so strong and Distripress is determined to provide it.”
