Readers are now presented with a consistent viewing experience across all platforms thanks to PageSuite’s PWA (progressive web app) and Native App offering. Delivering a familiar experience across both platforms is key, so that readers can benefit from the same features and a consistent user interface, says PageSuite.

There’s a separate app for each brand and some feature an ‘edition selector’ which prompts readers to select their local edition as they open the app. This choice is then stored for the user so that the local edition is loaded each time. Each app also has supplements broken out into a separate area so that they can be easily accessed and includes interactive puzzles to help drive engagement. The puzzles are driven by Puzzler Media and are available to play offline.

Articles, pages of the print edition and interactive puzzles can all be bookmarked and saved in a “My Content” area for the user to read or play later, along with any downloads of the full print edition. A centralised search function allows users to find articles from the full archive of both the main paper and the supplements.

PageSuite’s Edition platform includes an integration with Firebase so that DC Thomson Media can fully utilise push notifications and take advantage of enhanced analytics. The Article View feature is also available across the web and mobile, meaning readers can benefit from an enhanced ePaper viewing experience which is optimised for all devices.

Alan McCabe, Head of Product at DC Thomson Media, said, “Our ePaper products are more popular than ever and these enhancements are a direct result of feedback and insight from our growing customer base. Interactive puzzles from our colleagues at Puzzler Media, clearer navigation and new article view functionality are among the changes which have helped create a consistent and more engaging experience for all customers across web and app.”

The PWA can be viewed via the browser across all platforms and the native apps are available across iOS and Android.
