eMagazines, a digital publishing and distribution platform serving publishers and higher education institutions, has announced the acquisition of eType Services, one of the largest digital edition and technology providers for community newspapers in the US. Best known for its mobile reading technology, the eMagazines platform replaces flat PDF replicas with a reading experience built for today’s mobile-first audiences, added the company.
"At eMagazines we care deeply about trusted local media and the role it plays in keeping communities informed. Our goal is to give every publisher on our platform the tools they need to succeed: a best-in-class reading experience, subscription technology that grows revenue, and new opportunities to monetize their content through licensing,” said Andrew Degenholtz, founder and president of eMagazines. “This acquisition also brings community newspapers into the eMagazines family. Local news organizations have built something valuable, and we are excited to help them grow it."
eType Services was established by long-time publishing and technology professionals, continued eMagazines. Its products and services are designed to eliminate the barriers to entry for small- and medium-sized newspapers seeking to reach more readers and increase revenue through digital circulation.
Thad Swiderski, founder of eType Services, said: “For more than a decade, eType Services has focused on helping community newspapers adapt to the digital world while preserving the local journalism that communities rely on. I’m incredibly proud of what our team built and the hundreds of publishers we’ve had the privilege to serve. Joining eMagazines ensures that our customers gain access to world-class reading technology and a platform that can continue evolving alongside their needs. I’m excited about what this combination means for the future of community news.”
