Luke Lewis promoted to editor of NME.com

Luke Lewis has been named editor of international 24/7 music website www.NME.com.

Luke (pictured) began his career at Kerrang!, where he was associate editor, before moving to Q in 2007. In April 2008, Luke moved to NME.com as deputy editor.

As NME.com deputy editor, Luke was responsible for a comprehensive overhaul of the blogs section. From a standing start in 2008, it has blossomed into a 500,000-strong community of highly opinionated music fans. He has also been instrumental to the site’s expansion into new content areas such as movies and metal, which he will continue to develop as editor.

The news follows a year of major award wins for the website – having been named Consumer Website of the Year by both PPA and AOP. Judges have applauded the IPC Inspire site, commenting on its “exceptional growth, great results and high degree of innovation”.

Publishing director Paul Cheal says: “Amongst some extremely strong candidates for this position, Luke stands out as the right man for the job. Quality journalism, round the clock reporting and expert opinion pieces are crucial to NME.com remaining the first port of call for music fans and Luke is the ideal candidate to ensure NME.COM continues to deliver to them.”

Luke adds: “I’m incredibly honoured to now be editor of the world’s best music site, and I can’t wait to get started on the next stage of the site’s development – making NME.com the most lively, engaged and impassioned music community on the web.”

Luke takes up his new role with immediate effect.
