Martin Tideswell appointed Editor-in-Chief of The Sentinel

Martin Tideswell, Deputy Editor has been promoted to Editor-in-Chief of The Sentinel, with responsibility for the Leek Post & Times and Staffordshire Newsletter titles, with effect from October 18.

Martin began his career in 1989 at Smith Davis Press Agency where he covered breaking news and sport for regional and national newspapers, local radio stations and regional TV. He then held positions at the Chester Evening Leader and the Derby Evening Telegraph before joining The Sentinel, in 1998. He has since risen through the ranks, working as Deputy News Editor, News Editor, Head of Content, Assistant Editor, Deputy Editor and columnist.

Martin worked tirelessly on behalf of Port Vale fans and shareholders to expose the nil-paid shares fiasco and the fact that the infamous Blue Sky investment deal was dead. Martin’s story led to the Vale chairman being sacked and the chief executive resigning. He then masterminded The Sentinel’s campaign to help save the club when it went into administration, says Local World.

Working closely with commercial colleagues, Martin has also developed several supplements including the ‘Out & About’ tourism guide, published in conjunction with Destination Staffordshire, and the hugely popular WWI and D-Day anniversary souvenirs.

Martin said: “Having read The Sentinel as a child and then delivered it as a teenager, I have always felt privileged to work for my home city newspaper. I am, as our slogan says, ‘Local and Proud’. Having been brought up in the Potteries, I know the patch very well and, having been with The Sentinel for 16 years, I know the strengths of the terrific, dedicated team of journalists we have here. I am proud to lead them.”
